Nira Pereg “The Script Remains the Same”: new solo exhibition at Depo Gallery Istanbul

September 15 – October 28, 2022

“The Script Remains the Same” is the new solo exhibition by Nira Pereg at Depo Gallery, Istanbul, opening on Thursday, September 15, at 6 PM.

The solo show is curated by Vasif Kortum as a satellite event of the Istanbul Biennale (17 September–20 November 2022) with the support of Artis and Outset.

“The Script Remains the Same”, Pereg’s new body of work extends the artist’s preoccupation with the act of setting boundaries from public spheres to private spaces. The exhibition revolves around an algorithm tailored to the precise parameters of Depo’s ground floor gallery. This uncanny, dystopian algorithm choreographs its own performance of endless barricading formations to transform the viewer and the gallery itself into passive participants. The show is an assemblage of artistic methods surrounding the question of actions and ownership of one’s fate.

In Pereg’s first VR installation, virtual reality is examined as a political medium. The work places the viewer inside a realistic replica of the exhibition, while an algorithm executes a protocol of control in the form of a virus, adaptable to any given space.

On view through October 28, 2022.
