Congratulations to Gilad Ratman, the first winner of the Multidisciplinary Art award named after the late Uri Katzenstein for 2022.
From the committee’s reasons: “Throughout the years of his work, Gilad Ratman’s works are characterized by a multidisciplinary nature that challenges the connections between video, sculpture, performance, and sound. The winning proposal, the Labroides Project, is a continuation of the profound way in which the various mediums in Ratman’s works emerge and give birth to each other, to a formal, narrative, and conceptual fusion.
The project stems from the interpretive bias in which human principles and values are projected onto non-human systems, in this case the feeding system of the Labroides fish, and uses it to explore realms beyond language and beyond the human. The project stands out with a liberated creativity that is not limited to the boundaries of the familiar and the obvious, and is formed in an appropriate relation to Uri Katzenstein’s artistic spirit. “
