“Your work in my dreams”

‘Your work in my dreams’ is a duo exhibition featuring Noriko Nakamura and Gilad Ratman, and is the third and final instalment of Bus Projects’ ‘With Compliments’ series, exploring the way Australian artists locate their work within an international dialogue.

Noriko was deeply influenced by seeing Ratman’s “The Workshop”, presented in the Israel Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2013. “The Workshop” was a five channel video installation which portrayed a fantastical journey from Israel to Venice, which questioned the boundaries between fictional and factitious histories.

For the exhibition at Bus Projects, Noriko will present a new body of sculptural and video works, alongside Ratman’s large scale video installation, ‘The 588 Project’. ‘The 588 Project’ is an absurd and phantasmagorical exploration of connectivity between the natural and manmade, and depicts a series of heads submerged in mud in a forest. Noriko’s limestone sculptures will be presented in tandem with Ratman’s installation, allowing for a percolation of ideas to brew, submerge and cross-pollinate between each other.

‘Your work in my dreams’ will be the first presentation of Ratman’s work in Australia.

The exhibition includes a textwork by Georgina Criddle.

Gilad Ratman was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1975, and studied at the Bezalel Academy for Art and Design (BFA), Jerusalem and then at Columbia University (MFA), NY.

Ratman has been awarded the Anslem Kiefer Prize by the Wolf Foundation (2011); The Ministry of Culture “Young Artist” Prize (2007) and the Givon Prize of Tel Aviv Museum (2005).

Ratman’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv; Haifa Museum of Art, Haifa; American University Museum, Washington DC among others.
