Braverman Gallery is pleased to push the ‘play’ button and reopen its space after a long period of lockdowns. We are pushing the play button to reignite the gallery’s daily operations, the local art world, and life itself.

The concept of play stands at the base of human culture. It is the foundation of solid mental health and of our ability to develop and integrate the different, often contradictory, facets of the self in particular and those of our culture in general. The ability to play is part of what gives life meaning, or in the words of psychologist J.B. Frankel “the play’s the thing”.

Works in the exhibition were created across a large span of decades and media, and while at first glance may seem disparate, together they materialize the very concept of playfulness- whether through their subject matter or through their means of production. The physical installation in the gallery space will add another layer to this formal materialization and present a cohesive body of work in which each distinct and autonomous piece functions as part of a greater whole- that is playfulness, which is the origin for all works of art.
