Nezaket Ekici and Shahar Marcus „The Honey Project“ 2018 performance installation

September 7, 2018

„The Honey Project“ deals with language, culture and religion.

The project is an attempt by artists Nezaket Ekici (Turkish/German) and Shahar Marcus (Israeli) to integrate the cultures and languages of the world. The work is not intended to create a „colourful sound“ of many cultures, rather it is expected to go one step further: It is about internalizing the cultures and languages of the world in order to rethink the possibility of peace that people can achieve when they understand each other.

Participating in the performance are 13  migrants from different cultures. Chosen by Ekici and Marcus in Berlin, the performers represent linguistic regions on earth: Turkish, German, Hebrew, Chinese, Spanish, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Italian, French and Korean. The honey scripts are inspired by the Old Testament and Jewish religion. Thus, the letters that stand for the Bible are to pass directly into the body. On the tongue, the Bible appears sweet as honey.

The performance anticipates a utopia, a world in which there are no longer any differences between the cultures, languages and religions.

Performers: Nezaket Ekici and Shahar Marcus; Jérémie Pujau, Ok-Hee Jeong, Seow Yi Qing, Gabriela Madeira, Haruka Tomatsu, Michael Stephenson, Meve Avdic,  Ahmed Said, Silvia Camagni, Mica Figueiredo, Svetlana Lenichko

The Honey Project was first shown at Baustellenfest, Haus am Waldsee, Skulpturenpark, Berlin on August 25, 2018
