Tuesdays with the Collection: Shahar Marcus

In February and March, as part of another edition of the Tuesdays with the Collection project, the museum will be presenting Shahar Marcus’ work ‘Homecoming Artist (Dresden)’. It is a recording of a performance in which the artist plays the role of an artworld celebrity. Dressed in a smart suit, he travels through Dresden in a cabriolet with his chauffer and two models. He greets passers-by with a characteristic, slightly arrogant gesture. The documentation of Shahar Marcus’ interactions with passers-by is accompanied by their comments, in which they admit to never having heard of such an artist and not being interested in contemporary art at all. This is the second work in the MOCAK Collection in which the artist presents an ironic outlook on the world of art. The previous work, entitled ‘The Curator’, is available to view in the gallery space at level -1.

Tuesdays with the Collection is a two-year-long project: each Tuesday – the day on which the entry to the Museum is free – selected video works from the MOCAK Collection will be shown in the audiovisual room (11 am – 7 pm). Currently, our Collection comprised 161 video works, of which at least half have never been shown during the exhibitions of the Collection.
