Bio

Ce Jian (b. 1984, China. Lives and works in Berlin) employs a unique feminine approach that blends early modern abstraction with contemporary digital imagery, effectively redefining a futuristic approach to the 21st century. In the midst of growing concerns over the potential threats posed by artificial intelligence, Jian’s paintings serve as a welcome refuge, showcasing a world populated by fantastic and delicate creatures that offer us a glimpse of a bright and compassionate future in the face of our rapidly changing reality.

Jian studied fine arts with Georg Baselitz, Daniel Richter and Robert Lucander at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she graduated as Meisterschueler in 2008. She also studied art history, philosophy and East Asian art history at the Humboldt University and Freie Universität Berlin, receiving a M.A. (Magister Artium) degree in 2009. She received a Ph.D. in art and visual history from the Humboldt University in 2017, with a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
