Atalya Aufrichter’s paintings are realized with a meticulous technique that recalls the hyper-realism. The paintings are based on staged photographs or photographs from the family photo albums, and are inspired by the history of art and photography. In her intimate works, Aufrichter captures a double gaze: the photographed and the painted and the gaze of the viewer. Although her loyalty to photography and to the visible reality, Aufrichter’s work explores many levels of interpretation, since the artist tends to interfere with the photographed image and to change it, to dismantle it, to divide it, to add to it or to empty it of content.
Atalya Aufrichter received her BFA from Shenkar’s Department of Multidisciplinary Art in 2021.
