Ruth Patir

Sophie (Female Stauettes from the Dayan Collection), 2019

Video animation loop

3 22″ plasma screens, 2 Tablets with mirrors

100 x 35 x 5 cm

Edition of 5

The works in this series depict still female figurines made of ceramic and stone which are brought to life in short animations of dancing figurines from Patir’s solo show Love Letters to Ruth (Hamidrasha Gallery, Tel Aviv, 2018). The artist sets these figurines in relation to their male collector (the late general Moshe Dayan), evoking common tropes of objectifying and fetishizing women, along with fetish of archeology collecting. By bringing these still figures to life, Patir allows us to observe the ways in which the female image has been culturally fixated.
