Bio

Born 1972 in New York, lives and works in Berlin.

Ari Benjamin Meyers (b. 1972, New York) lives and works in Berlin. Meyers’ work explores structures and processes that redefine the performative, social, and ephemeral nature of music. His conceptual projects and installations often draw attention to concrete details of musicmaking otherwise taken for granted and make tangible underlying conceptual operations. Recent works have addressed music scores themselves, forms and arrangements of musical instruments, concert settings, and gestures of performers and conductors. At the same time, his compositions and performances seek to challenge the relationship between performer and audience, giving form to the practice of musicians and composers, and musical structures in the context of visual art.

Selected solo group exhibitions and projects include MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, (2021, Lisbon), Beaufort 21: 7th Beaufort Triennial, (2021, Flanders), K Club (2020, Berlin), Schering Stiftung (2020, Berlin), VAC Foundation (2019, Moscow), Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara (2019), OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni (2019, Turin), Schauspielhaus Bochum (2018, Bochum), Volksbühne (2018, Berlin), Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus (2017,Munich), and Museum of Modern Art (2016, Warsaw).
